Equip them to be the creators of the solutions that haven't been invented yet
Quite often I hear, usually from adults, that when it comes to climate education, young people want to hear about 'solutions', not just problems. Fair enough.
But for me, what's critical isn't just direct instruction by adults to children on how to do a climate action (like, say, turning off the lights when you leave the room), it's education that helps young people to imagine, design, lobby for, plan, and implement their own solutions. Why? Because the solutions remain out there waiting to be born.
We talk about 'Generation Action' at Global Action Plan and this is who they are, they're imaginative, creative, caring, communicative and collaborative doers, they're NOT robotic followers of a set of textbook instructions on how to be green.
We don't 'give' young people solutions, we equip them with what they need to be the creators of the solutions that haven't been invented yet - that's what climate education is, and every educator has a role to play.
